For a few years, I’ve started my mornings listening to Max MacLean read the entire Bible to me over the course of the calendar year (www.ESV.org). My iPhone and Bluetooth earpiece enable me to hear the Lord and block out all the negative thoughts assaulting my mind so early.
Sometimes I walk too far from my iPhone and the Bluetooth earpiece’ computer lady informs me I’ve wandered off and, “lost connection”. Which is a pretty good description of my relationship with the Perfect Father.
Often, I walk too far from the Lord and lose my connection with Him. I make bad decisions, make bad assumptions, and say bad things. It is tough to be a Christ-like father when you lose connection with Christ.
Dads, commit today to maintain your connection with the Lord. Bless your wife and children by being the father He calls you to be.
God is Sovereign. He is love. All He does and allows is good.
Pat Harrell, An Imperfect Father
For our 25th wedding anniversary, I gave my wife a sterling silver pendant. Engraved with words of love and promises of faithfulness to her. Silver anniversary = silver pendant. For once, I get an anniversary right.
Upon presenting the engraved, sterling silver pendant to my lovely wife, my son Ever (10) shouts, “Dad, is it real?“
I just stare at Ever for a while. Slowly realizing, I gotta teach this boy there are some questions you don’t ask your father while your mother is in the same room.
His small body convulsed and wretched as he tried to vomit into the toilet. He cried out in agony as tears filled his sad eyes. I was lying on the bathroom floor, next to Ever as I prayed over his tummy ache and asked him, “How can I help you, son?”
“I need somebody to hold my hand!” he bellowed as he hung his head over the toilet.
Sometimes, I ask my kids how I can help them and they tell me, “I don’t know.” I stare at them in frustration, as I want to help, but can’t figure out how to help.
Sometimes, I ask my kids how I can help them and they tell me exactly what they need. This was one of those times, so I reached out to Ever and his tiny hand buried into my big paw.
Ever’s plea was simple and direct. I like that. I’m sorry my son was in such pain yet I’m glad I could fulfill his need so quickly and easily.
Ever is better now. His tummy is fine.
Remember…Christ never promised His followers an easy life nor peace in this world. Rather, He promised He would be with us and we would have peace in Him.
As the Apostle Paul wrote to us…
“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted...”
- II Timothy 3:12
And as Christ Himself spoke to us…
“I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
- John 16:33
Remember…when God calls you to be one of His chosen for salvation through His Son Jesus Christ, He keeps you for eternity. You cannot be lost again.
1 Corinthians 1:8–9: “The Lord will sustain (keep) you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
